Community Programs and Outreach:
· Open medical days in which Dheisheh residents receive free consultation, diagnosis and treatment by medical specialists. · Provided 458 pairs of eyeglasses and 45 hearing aids to school-age children. · Free reconstructive surgery for 85 poverty-stricken patients. · Mental Health Program for Adolescents. This 3-month program provided education and information to 45 youth on health and psychological issues specific to their age group. · Women’s Health Program. This program aimed to heighten awareness of specific health needs of women and children within the community through symposia, appointments with health care specialists, and the development/dissemination of educational materials such as fact sheets, informational flyers and brochures. · Founded the Intifada Wounded Association for those injured and/or disabled during the years of Intifada. · In collaboration with the Bethlehem Sports Club for the Handicapped organized an annual festival. · Researchers and 3 directors conducted a statistical survey on the prevalence of diabetes among the population in Dheisheh Refugee Camp. · Acquired costly medication, medical equipment and supplies in cooperation with other healthcare organizations for low-income patients admitted to hospitals within the surrounding Bethlehem area. Provided financial assistance to defray the cost of expensive laboratory work and medical examinations. · Produced and aired a three -part series on blood-born diseases on a local television network. · Cancer Committee: The aim of this project is to address the healthcare needs of cancer patients and their families within their communities. Cancer patients and their families will be referred to oncological and psychological specialists to assess Their medical and psychological needs and to provide treatment as required. Breast cancer screening program will be implemented along with an effort to identify potential environmental risks/causes of cancer such as waste disposal methods, electro-magnetic waves and chemical food additives. The later will culminate in the development of a campaign advocating for a safe, clean environment and workplace. |
