The IHC held the third annual Summer Mental Health  Camp for Children this past July at Dheisheh refugee camp. This two week camp welcomed 80 children and youth between the ages of 8 and 14 for activities such as painting, sports, and mental health education. The children also prepared presentations on health related topics. When asked to suggest a final group activity, all of the children agreed to stage a protest against the Israeli-U.S war in Lebanon and Palestine, and the U.S war in Iraq.

Screening for and identifying children in need of psychological services constitutes one of the primary aims of this camp. The camp’s  staff identified 21 participants as in need of further care. Members of the IHC will monitor  their progress starting in mid-September and reassess their status in December 2006 at the third annual Winter Mental Health Camp.
